You can create tasks via Google Drive (docs, sheets, slides) templates.
- These can be either blank, or have pre-filled content.
- Once assigned to your class, ManageBac creates a copy for every student so their work is separate.
- Contrary to that you can assign a single document for everyone to cooperate on. Think a Google Slide that each student is to create a single slide within the show.
- Students have until the due date to work on it and then submit the document.
- Once submitted the student can not make changes until the teacher has returned it for additional work.
- Teachers can mark up the document either within the doc using track changes, or via ManageBac's annotation feature.
- Students can use track changes after submitting to make extra notes for their teacher.
- Teachers can comment and assign points. When those points are entered they automatically go to the grade book.
The Process--
First open up a task for your class, name it, assign a unit, due date, category, and assessment criteria as usual. Then check the box for Google Docs Coursework Submissions:
Now click Add New Template. Here you have a tab to add individual or all students in the class to this task, and the document tab itself where you will name it and select a template from Google Drive. The Google Drive folder you use is not your own, but belongs to managebac@bssd72.org Browse into "my drive" for this user, and then the templates folder. Here you can utilize one of the already created blank documents for your assignments, or if you've saved a custom template to this folder navigate to it.
To add your own files, in your Google Drive, search for the ManageBac Templates folder that is shared with you as an MS/HS teacher. Create a folder for yourself in this main folder and then either copy, move, or create new templates in your folder. A template is simply a Google Document with information already typed into it that students can start creating their assignment with.
Once you've selected your file and published the task, returning to the task will show you the status of all of the students you've assigned this work to.
Clicking on the student's name will bring you to the assessment screen where you can make comments, add a grade, etc.
